Plan

Julio editors meet individually with English teachers/journalism program advisers from each school to help plan news article assignments for students. Regular meetings are once or twice a week, depending on school size. Special planning and review meetings are held monthly.

As an independent representative of scholastic news, we use social media daily to funnel attention to articles written by students. We also help teachers organize online and on-campus events to promote scholastic journalism. Julio also organizes off-campus reporting trips, journalism camps and other special events aimed at recruiting students to scholastic news, driving up engagement and results.

Teach

Teachers collect articles submitted by students and forward them to the Julio editing hub. Julio editors review the articles, add suggestions, including a fully edited version for the teachers’ eyes only. Teachers review this, then pass relevant suggestions along to the student, who revises the article accordingly. The final draft is then submitted to the Julio editing hub for publication.

Julio continuously tallies contributions and updates a secure, private dashboard weekly, making it easy for teachers and administrators to monitor performance trends and benchmark results against aggregate data.

We also produce quarterly tracking reports for each school, noting key successes and opportunities for improvement, compiled from contributions by teachers and Julio.

Publish

Julio editors give article a final check and if any changes are made to that version, the teacher will have a look for final approval. The article is then published on the omnibus pages and on the individual school’s page. Teachers and advisers are free to decide on article placement on individual school pages, or can leave that role to Julio editors.

Recognize

Julio presents annual awards to the best student contributions across categories and schools. The platform also offers independently judged awards at each school and offers assistance and coaching in applying for scholastic journalism awards from established organizations including the National Scholastic Press Association, the Journalism Education Association, Columbia Scholastic Press Association and others.
