All together now

Julio combines contributions from all participating schools into a single metropolitan-area web site, creating a scholastic media omnibus that maximizes student engagement and recognition. Founded and operated by veteran journalists and scholastic-media educators, Julio helps English teachers to focus on delivering writing instruction in the classroom by providing independent review of all student submissions.

As an independent third-party, Julio also helps teachers deliver professional-quality assessment and review of student writing and editing, while maximizing positive reinforcement within the classroom environment.

Critical mass

Schools are dedicating more resources to teaching writing and media literacy, yet only the largest have the critical mass of students needed to make scholastic news media thrive. The solution is collaboration via a third-party platform like Julio.

International schools are well-situated to benefit from a multi-school news site. While an institution with 200 high school students may struggle to consistently produce timely news media content, three or more such institutions combined would form a thriving news site worthy of broad readership and recognition.

Social-media bulwark

Just as the demand for stronger writing skills and media literacy is rising, competition for student attention is intensifying. Social media and online entertainment are expanding their audiences rapidly, drawing students away from conventional news and cultural activties. To rival this appeal, scholastic media needs frequent updates, topical breadth and a critical mass of student reporters and editors.

Platform power

Publishing an online news site involves a lot of scut work, even when the number of stories is small. As programs push to boost participation, the load builds quickly. By handling all the tracking and workflow tasks to produce the Scholastic Times news site, Julio leaves teachers, advisers and students with more time to focus on building writing, research, reporting and analysis skills.
